This house is for a DC-based architecture/developer it will serve as a vacation home and office retreat. Best described as a modern-day ruin, the existing masonry structures are vacant shells full of promise.
In spite of its large size at nearly 9,000 SF, the home will be built almost entirely within the footprint of existing structures on the site. Heating and cooling will be supplemented by a ground source heat pump, and hot water and electricity for core services will be provided by solar arrays. Stormwater will be managed in part by a vegetated roof. Exterior walls and roofs will be structural insulated panels(SIPS), and natural daylighting will be provided by translucent panels with nanogel insulation.
