Project Description

The General Scott Condo, a well-preserved art deco building dating to 1941, was in need of a roof replacemt. At the same time, the building faced increased competition from newer condos and apartments in the area stocked with modern amenities. With no room inside to add workout rooms or movie theaters, the owners have decided to take advantage of their greatest asset: the roof, with views of the Washington Monument, The White House, the US Capitol, The Basilica at Catholic University, and The National Cathedral.

Environmental Benefits

Recognizing the roof as an opportunity to do more than just replace the conventional construction with more of the same, The owners have committed to a greener renovation. Green initiatives include: VEGETATED ROOF: at nearly 10,000 sf, this will be the largest green roof installation on a residential building in DC to date; GREEN WOOD: FSC certified sustainably harvested timber throughout; COOL ROOF: high-emissivity pavers and other impervious surfaces; and ENERGY EFFICIENCY: custom low-energy, long-life led lighting to match the existing art deco fixtures.
